What is Disney Cruise Line’s Halloween on the High Seas?

Disney Cruise Line’s Halloween on the High Seas is a spook-tacular experience that takes place on select sailings across the Disney Cruise Line fleet. These voyages typically run from mid-September through late October, bringing a host of not-so-scary activities, eerie entertainment, and elaborate décor. The highlight? The entire ship is transformed into a Halloween haven. From the lobby Halloween decorations and themed food to character appearances and entertainment, it’s an immersive Halloween experience at sea.

On my first Disney Cruise Halloween on the High Seas sailing, I was greeted by the highly decorated Grand Hall adorned with garlands, twinkling lights, and a massive glowing Magical Pumpkin Tree—each ship has its own uniquely named pumpkin tree!

Disney Halloween Cruise Ships and Itineraries

Disney offers Halloween on the High Seas on ships across various itineraries, ensuring something for everyone. I sailed on Halloween cruises on board the Disney Wonder and Disney Magic. For 2024 and 2025, Disney Cruise Line is offering Halloween on the High Seas sailings on the Disney Magic, Disney Dream, Disney Fantasy, and Disney Wish from Fort Lauderdale or Port Canaveral. Destinations include the Bahamas and the Eastern and Western Caribbean. If you are interested in visiting Castaway Cay or Lookout Cay at Lighthouse Point, Disney Cruise Line’s newest destination, be sure to look for a Bahamian cruise that includes these stops. Sailings from San Diego to Mexico were offered in the past on board the Disney Wonder. However, there are currently no itineraries on the schedule.

Sailings range from 3 nights to 6 nights, so there are plenty of options to take part in the Halloween fun.

Disney Cruise Halloween Activities and Entertainment at Sea

The unique activities during Halloween on the High Seas are what really make this event stand out. I found myself torn between joining in on the dance parties, meeting the characters in their Halloween costumes, trick-or-treating, and simply soaking up the atmosphere. Here are some of the highlights:

Mickey’s Mouse-querade Party and Character Meet-and-Greets

Mickey’s Mouse-querade Party was by far my favorite event on the cruise. It is a high-energy bash where you can dance with your favorite Disney pals, like Mickey, Minnie, and Goofy—all dressed in their Halloween best.

For Disney fans, this is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to see their favorite characters in seasonal attire. I recommend keeping an eye on the Disney Cruise Line Navigator App for character locations and times, as these meet-and-greets are quite popular.

Haunted Stories of the Sea and Themed Entertainment

If you’re a fan of spooky storytelling, make sure to gather around for the Haunted Stories of the Sea. This was one of those unexpected delights that had both kids and adults on the edge of their seats. The crew’s storytelling was chilling yet fun, blending Disney magic with just the right amount of Halloween creepiness.

Other entertainment options include spooky movie screenings of classics like “The Nightmare Before Christmas” and “Hocus Pocus”, which play on the Funnel Vision, located on the pool deck, and the ship’s movie theater.

And of course, no Disney Halloween cruise would be complete without the Villains Takeover for adults. This exclusive, adults-only costume party features cocktails, dancing, and even a surprise appearance from some of Disney’s most notorious villains.

Trick-or-Treating at Sea

What’s Halloween without some good old-fashioned trick-or-treating? Disney’s Halloween on the High Seas brings this beloved tradition to the high seas in the most enchanting way possible. I watched as guests lined up in our costumes to visit various themed stations set up throughout the ship. Each stop was manned by friendly crew members handing out candy, and the atmosphere buzzed with excitement. Trick-or-treat bags are provided or you can bring your own.

Halloween-Themed Dining and Treats

One of the things I looked forward to most was the themed food. The Halloween on the High Seas cruise offers a range of exclusive dishes and treats across the ship’s restaurants and cafés. I couldn’t resist the spooky cupcakes and desserts.

Costumes aren’t required, but they are highly encouraged! You’ll see everything from simple pirate hats to elaborate princess gowns. Just make sure to follow the Disney Cruise Line costume guidelines and add a costume to your packing list!

Which Disney ships offer Halloween on the High Seas?
